Workshop online on green skills in the ports’ sector organized by CEI, FVG region in the framework of EUSAIR Pillar II

On September 12, 2025, the online workshop “Green Ports and the Skills of Tomorrow: Advancing port competences and critical success factors for a sustainable maritime transition” was held under the EUSAIR Green and Smart Ports initiative, co-organised by CEI and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.

The webinar, which gathered over 60 participants, focused on the importance of increasing competences and green skills in ports of the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region to properly lead the green and digital transition that the sector is facing.

In this framework, we had the opportunity to moderate the final roundtable: a practical discussion that highlighted operational ideas to strengthen collaboration among ports, port businesses, sector clusters and research institutions, and stressed the urgency of promoting training pathways to develop green skills in the ports sector.

Among the concrete suggestions that emerged were the development of shared training programmes to maximise resources, the creation of mechanisms for transferring best practices to small and medium-sized ports through tailored pathways that consider their specific characteristics, and the piloting of initiatives that invest in human capital via upskilling and continuous training of workers of the ports’ sector.
